Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey were ‘cordial’ but ‘awkward,’ claim multiple sources
Jessica Simpson and her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, recently flew together on the same flight with their respective spouses. Multiple sources told TMZ that the “former couple had an unexpected run-in on the same flight from Los Angeles to Kauai, Hawaii, on March 29, where both were seated in first class.”
However, despite being in close quarters, the former pair did everything possible to “avoid each other the entire time.” A source even revealed that Lachey turned bright red when he realized his ex-wife was also on board the same flight and “from that moment on, there was zero interaction.” Even Simpson switched her seat with someone in her group to make sure she wasn’t anywhere near” her ex-husband.
Simpson’s estranged husband, Eric Johnson, was also on the flight. However, he was sitting in coach while she stayed in first class. Even Lachey’s wife, Vanessa Lachey, was on board. However, another source told PEOPLE that despite the awkward encounter, Simpson, Lachey, and his wife, “all had a nice conversation.” “It was very amicable and cordial,” the source revealed.
Simpson and Lachey, 52, started dating in 1999 and married in October 2002. But the exes parted ways after four years of marriage and a successful MTV series, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.” They finalized their divorce in 2006.
She later got engaged to Johnson in 2010 and tied the knot in 2014. They share three children. However, Simpson announced her separation from her former NFL player in January 2025 after 10 years of marriage. Meanwhile, the 98 Degrees singer married Vanessa in 2011. They are parents to two sons and a daughter.
