The First Lady hasn’t ingratiated herself with Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors. Melania Trump delivered a strong statement about the late pedophile on Thursday. According to Melania, she and the disgraced financier were never friends. She called for the links between her and Jeffrey to end, claiming that all the speculation was lies. Her statement apparently even surprised Donald Trump.
Survivors of Jeffrey and his sex trafficking scandal were quick to speak out after the First Lady’s statement.
The First Lady is accused of “shifting the burden”
Accountability doesn’t appear to be top of mind for Melania in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. That is something survivors believe, and they are calling out the First Lady. A statement released by numerous survivors says that “the First Lady is now shifting the burden onto survivors under politicized conditions that protect those with power.” The statement goes on to say that Melania’s statement “also diverts attention from Pam Bondi, who must answer for withheld files and the exposure of survivor identities.”
The revealing of victims’ names is something the Department of Justice has received widespread criticism over. In February, Whoopi Goldberg ripped the Trump administration for leaking the names of these people. On The View, she says the government gave victims “the middle finger” by doing this.
In her statement on Thursday, Melania also reiterated that, aside from a few coincidental encounters with Jeffrey and his girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, she had no ties to the two. She also stated that Jeffrey wasn’t the one to introduce Melania to her future husband, Donald. These claims were made by author Andrew Lownie in his book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.
It was unclear what exactly spurred the First Lady to respond publicly about this on Thursday. Reports suggest that her husband’s name was redacted numerous times when the Epstein files were released. The Trump administration acknowledges he’s in the files but denies he did anything wrong.
