From that controversial American Eagles ad campaign to The Housemaid and Euphoria Season 3, Sydney Sweeney has – for better or worse – been literally everywhere of late. Perhaps it will come as a surprise, then, that her cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 was scrapped.
A “creative decision” was made to axe Sydney Sweeney’s scene
According to an Entertainment Weekly insider, it was a “creative decision” to cut Sydney’s scene from the sequel. That said, the move wasn’t easy.
The source explained that Sydney’s participation in the project was much appreciated. This reportedly made the decision to remove her scene from The Devil Wears Prada 2 a difficult one.
Ultimately, though, the source revealed that Sydney’s scene did not work structurally with the rest of the film when it came to final edits. So, what did her scene actually involve?
Well, before going into that, let’s look at the plot of the movie overall. The Devil Wears Prada 2 brings back all the main players of the original movie, and thus far, the trailers have teased a plot which sees Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs return to Runway. There, she reunites with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly and Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling.
Amid a scandal, the trio are tasked with saving the iconic fashion magazine, and they seek out the help of Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton (who now works at Dior) to do so. And, it’s during the reintroduction of Emily’s character that Sydney’s scene would have taken place. She’s understood to have had a three-minute scene playing herself as one of Emily’s celebrity clients.
Disney and Sydney are both yet to comment on her scene being cut from the film.
