Tessa Thompson’s Bedazzled Balenciaga Top Is as Sheer as It Gets

During her recent red carpet appearance in New York City, Tessa Thompson showed off her bold style in a bedazzled sheer Balenciaga top. The Golden Globe nominee was attending the “Is God Is” premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on April 28. Photos of her appearance at the star-studded event have since gone viral online.

Styled by longtime collaborator Karla Welch, Tessa Thompson opted for Look 25 from Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection. The ensemble featured a sheer black, one-sleeve asymmetrical top featuring light-catching embellishments. The top’s unique construction created a sculptural silhouette, with one side elegantly draped to reveal a hint of skin while the other remained fully covered. Underneath the top, she appeared to be wearing a black bra.

Thompson grounded the shimmering top with a pair of voluminous, wide-leg trousers that tapered slightly towards the ankles. The Balenciaga Bolero B Belt in black smooth calfskin cinched the trousers at the waist. The $395 belt was a piece from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, featured in several of the runway looks. She accessorized with Balenciaga Long Gloves in black lambskin from the same collection. The choice of gloves for her look elevated the noir theme and added a touch of avant-garde mystery.

On her feet were the Balenciaga Duchesse shoes. The black leather shoes featured pointed toes and stiletto heels, which elongated her frame. Her accessories were minimal, which kept the spotlight on the top’s intricate detailing. She wore her black hair in loose waves with a middle part. Meanwhile, her makeup featured a swipe of dark burgundy lipstick and red blush on her cheeks.

“Is God Is” is the film adaptation of Aleshea Harris’ play. While Harris has directed the movie, Kara Young, Mallori Johnson, Janelle Monáe, Vivica A. Fox, and Sterling K. Brown star as the lead characters.
