Donald Trump reacts to Rudy Giuliani’s hospitalization
President Donald Trump responded to Rudy Giuliani’s hospitalization by posting on Truth Social, quickly shifting focus to attack Democrats. Trump offered few words of concern before launching into a political rant. A spokesperson for Giuliani, 81, announced on Sunday that the former New York Mayor is in critical condition at a Florida hospital.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition.” He continued, “What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”
The cause of Giuliani’s hospitalization remains unclear at this time. Trump appeared to link his medical crisis to Democrats’ criticism of Giuliani’s alleged role in efforts to overturn Trump’s 2020 election defeat against Joe Biden.
Giuliani closely advised Trump’s legal team during his first presidency. He pushed false claims about the 2020 election being stolen. He also spoke at the Stop the Steal rally before the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Courts in both New York and Washington, D.C., disbarred him over his election claims. A jury awarded $148 million in damages to two Georgia poll workers. They sued Giuliani for defamation after the 2020 election. He reached a settlement with the pair last year.
Trump rewarded Giuliani for his loyalty since returning to office. He issued him a full, complete, and unconditional pardon in November. Trump also announced in September that he would award Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
