Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost recently mocked Donald Trump. The president’s image will appear on a limited number of passports on the inside cover. These passports will be released in July 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. Trump’s branding campaign is going strong as he continues to place his likeness, name, and signature on currency, federal buildings, and platforms.
Colin Jost jokes about Donald Trump’s face on US passport
During SNL’s Weekend Update segment, Jost took a subtle jab at Trump for getting his image featured on the passports. He announced the US State Department’s move, which allows any American citizen to obtain this passport once it rolls out. However, it will only be available at the Washington Passport Agency. The passport is set to feature Trump’s face and gold signature, as shown in its mockup. Moreover, the document issued online or at other locations will not have the special design but will have the usual one.
Joking about the government’s latest move, Jost added, “You’ll always carry a reminder of why you fled the country.” Further, he spoke about the picture and what it represents on the passport’s inside cover. “I love that the picture of Trump is also burning a hole in the Declaration of Independence,” he sarcastically stated.
A White House spokesperson addressed the new passport design for the nation’s upcoming birthday. They said, “President Trump’s new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America’s 250th birthday.”
The spokesperson added more on what Trump intends to do with this move. They elaborated, “Between the UFC250 Fight, the Great American State Fair, Freedom250 Grand Prix, and this new passport celebrating our freedom, President Trump continues to proudly lead a renewal of national pride and patriotism during our historic semiquincentennial celebration” (via BBC).
