Robert Irwin revealed he once got “death-rolled” by a 14-foot “Jimmy Fallon.” For those unversed, Irwin was referring to a crocodile named Jimmy Fallon and not the famous talk-show host. The Australian conservationist and zookeeper spoke about this unique yet dangerous experience on Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show. However, the crocodile eventually rolled the other way, and Irwin heaved a sigh of relief.
Robert Irwin details close encounter with Jimmy Fallon, the crocodile
Robert Irwin recalled his close encounter with a crocodile named Jimmy Fallon on a recent episode of The Tonight Show. The wildlife conservationist spoke about protecting the environment and animals and how much that matters to him. The conversation soon pivoted to his encounter with the crocodile, Fallon. Irwin explained, “I named this crocodile Jimmy Fallon, like, years ago, and he’s now what we call a boss croc. He’s huge, right?”
Continuing further, the DWTS alum shared, “So we research crocodiles.” Fallon interjected and remarked, “He’s normal size,” which Irwin repeated, and Fallon joked, “I mean, as you get older, you start to put on some pounds.”
Irwin, 22, eager to tell his story, narrated, “Because we research crocodiles in the wild to better conserve them. So the way you do that—my dad came up with this—you have to actually jump on them, right? So, I jumped on the back of Jimmy Fallon (crocodile), and he death-rolled me.”
As the audience echoed with sounds of surprise, Irwin explained, “I jumped onto him, I kid you not. A 14-foot crocodile, big croc, death-rolls me. So I’m stuck underneath him with my arm hanging out. I have probably 700 pounds on top of me, and I’m just like, ‘What do I do?’” “And luckily, he rolled back the other way, and I was fine. But he’s a goer, Jimmy,” Irwin added enthusiastically. Talk-show host Fallon said, “I love that,” as the audience clapped.
