Savannah Guthrie has been through a roller coaster of emotions this year. The Today Show co-host was overwhelmed on Thursday’s program, which looked back at her and the other anchors on the program.
Over three months ago, Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona. As of now no suspects have been arrested in connection to the case. Savannah only recently returned to work after taking a leave of absence to address that matter.

Memories of the past can often trigger us in ways we couldn’t imagine. On Thursday’s edition of the Today Show, old photos of the on-air personalities were displayed from their younger days. It was part of the segment Jenna’s Morning Boost. One of the pictures shown was Savannah around the age of five in a Bluebird Camp Fire Girls outfit. “That was in my backyard,” said Savannah while appearing to be overcome with emotion in the moment.
Savannah and her family have been through a heartbreaking few months as the search for her 84-year-old mother continues. The Australian-born anchor has understandably shed more than her share of tears in the aftermath of Nancy’s disappearance. In an interview with Hota Kotb in March, Savannah got very emotional discussing the case, including her mother reportedly being taken without her shoes.
Nancy was last seen having dinner with her daughter Annie on January 31. The following day, she missed her Sunday church service, raising alarm bells as it was very out of character for her. In the months since then, there’s been widespread speculation as to the motive behind her alleged taking and whether she’s alive or dead.
Previously, Savannah offered a $1 million reward for information on this case. A suspect description was revealed a long time ago, though the case remains ongoing.
