New insider reports suggest that Savannah Guthrie’s friends are concerned about her after her new career move, believing that she may be pushing herself too hard to deal with her internal struggles.
Guthrie has hopped onto NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show while her mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing since February of this year. Guthrie was absent from her regular gig on the Today show for nearly two months after the alleged kidnapping.
Savannah Guthrie’s close friends are ‘worried’ about her, insider suggest
Svannah Guthrie’s friends at Today are concerned about the anchor amidst her new surprise gig hosting NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show. The career move has reportedly caused concern among her friends, who believe that she may be pushing herself too hard while struggling with personal pain over her mother’s alleged kidnapping.
While the original announcement was meant as a celebration of Savannah’s career, sources have told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice that it triggered anxiety amongst her close friends and colleagues.
“People around Savannah are worried because she never stops,” one insider said, “She’s grieving, she’s under pressure at Today, ratings are tightening, and instead of slowing down she keeps adding more work.”
Meanwhile, this also happens to be a fragile moment on Today, which saw Hoda Kotb’s exit.
“NBC desperately needs stability right now,” a network source said, “When your biggest star starts branching out this aggressively, people naturally wonder if her focus is shifting away from the show.”
Moreover, other sources add that Savannah’s emotional state has become a major topic of conversation among colleagues after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance in February. “Savannah is trying to stay strong on-air, but this has rocked her deeply,” one insider added, “Friends think work has become a coping mechanism. She’s filling every empty space with another project.”
Insiders insist that they are not afraid of Savannah not doing well in the new show, but about her pushing herself too hard.
“She’s one of the hardest-working people in television,” a source added, “The fear isn’t that she’ll fail — it’s that she’s carrying too much for too long.”
