Julia Louis-Dreyfus discussed her “awkward” kiss with Stephen Colbert in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The interviewer wasted no time and immediately asked Dreyfus about the kiss.
The 65-year-old actress replied, “Awkward. It was so awkward. As we started to do this bit, I thought, ‘Oh no. Is this gonna work?’ (Laughs.) I get very cold feet. He goes to me, ‘Your husband’s backstage,’ and of course, Evie [Colbert] is backstage too. We were all just dying. It was AWKWARD.”
The Veep star also confessed that she became emotional backstage during her final appearance on the talk show. Dreyfus detailed, “Stephen introduced me to each person in the room. I was struck by the heaviness of this moment, and I told them how much I appreciated what they were doing and the value I believe this show brings to our culture, and, of course, they’re a part of that. So it’s definitely a great loss, and I felt it when I was in the innards of the show with those guys.”
Furthermore, Dreyfus also admitted that the nature of their friendship was “easy.” She explained that they “align comedically” and “with a way of viewing the world.” The Marvel star also revealed that she shares a great bond with Colbert’s spouse, Evie, and that they have a “shared set of values.”
Notably, Colbert has his hands full after wrapping his stint on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He is a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings and will pen the next installment of the famed fantasy series. When the announcement was first made, Colbert confessed he was “pretty happy” to be writing the next LOTR movie.
