Sydney Sweeney’s Euphoria Character Cassie Defends Her OnlyFans Work

Sydney Sweeney’s Euphoria character, Cassie, defended the kind of work she has to do as an OnlyFans creator. The character pivoted toward the platform to pay for her dream wedding to Nate (Jacob Elordi). However, the actress and Euphoria’s showrunners have been receiving backlash for X-rated scenes in the show.  Now, Cassie has jumped in to defend her decision to do explicit scenes as an OnlyFans creator on the show.

Sydney Sweeney’s character defends her sex work on Euphoria

Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie, reportedly justified her sex work on Euphoria Season 3 after several provocative scenes. During the May 17 episode of the show, Cassie got her big break on a movie set. However, her younger sister, Lexi (Maude Apatow), berated her for her OnlyFans work. Lexi threw shade at Cassie for filming herself topless, engaging in explicit scenes, and even getting paid extra for following certain “instructions.”

However, Cassie took offense at being labeled a sex worker and retorted, “I’m a performer. That uses my body to tell stories.” Sweeney’s character was ultimately able to book the role, which evolved into something bigger for her career. But such a glorious opportunity required her to delete her OnlyFans account (via Us Weekly).

Previously, OnlyFans stars have slammed Sweeney’s portrayal of an adult creator. So far, the actress has sported many controversial outfits, from dressing as a baby to wearing a dog outfit for the show. At one point, she suggested that men would pay $50 for a good-morning text from her.

Popular creator Sophie Rain told TMZ that the makers are simply sensationalizing the platform for views. She said, “They’re definitely just making it dramatic for entertainment, but it’s not reality.” Meanwhile, other OnlyFans stars have slammed her character’s portrayal on the platform as “beyond troubling” and called it “ridiculous and cartoonish.”

However, the showrunner, Sam Levinson, defended Sweeney’s Cassie in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “[Cassie] has got her dog house and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humor, but what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it,” Levinson stated. “What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion — the gag is to jump out, to break the wall.”
