Donald Trump Updates on Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Upgrade; Says It Will Be ‘Waterproof’

US President Donald Trump visited his ballroom construction site and boasted about the changes he is making to the historic Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, including painting the basin “American flag blue” and making it “waterproof.”

Opponents have lashed back at unnecessary renovations to the White House East Wing and also against the desecration of the site that witnessed Martin Luther King Jr.’s epoch-making “I Have a Dream” speech.

Trump spoke in detail about the improved security specifications of the Lincoln Reflecting Pool, saying that the roof will have “the greatest drone empire you have ever seen.”

Trump stated that he has chosen a “higher quality sealer with more reflectivity” and confirmed that the pool is being completely remade with an industrial-grade, waterproof swimming filament. He has also claimed that he has done more to repair the iconic site than his predecessors, like Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who spent a large amount to get “a closed lake” that “leaked.”

However, his opponents, including the non-profit The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF)’s founder Charles A. Birbaum, have sued the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service for not following mandatory congressional procedures before making major changes to the historic site. The complaint states, “This latest desecration of the reflecting pool is part of a pattern—epitomized most notably by the rush to destroy the East Wing of the White [House]—in which this administration willfully disregards legal limits established by Congress.”

Trump is also facing ongoing backlash from liberals and Democrats for his wasteful expenditure on a luxurious ballroom being built after serious renovations to the White House East Wing. The protests have intensified when pitted against national priorities like affordability, tax debt, and the ongoing Iran war, which deserve more attention than the recent spate of constructions.
