Stephen Colbert’s talk show, “The Late Show,” might have a tearful finale. A TV insider told RadarOnline that the 62-year-old might be planning an emotional farewell. However, it could reportedly not be everyone’s cup of tea.
“Stephen loves sharing his love of poetry on air, and sees it as this profound emotional bridge between comedy and sincerity, but there are people behind the scenes who think the finale could become unbearably self-serious if he goes ahead with his plans to incorporate verses into his farewell,” they said. According to the source, there are concerns over viewers finding a “weepy, literary, self-indulgent therapy session,” instead of a light comedy content.
Furthermore, another insider revealed that the finale might include speeches and readings. It could reportedly also feature a segment where Colbert might recall “famous poetry moments.” They claimed that a group of staff members was allegedly making fun of the show’s final episode. “Some staffers are joking it’s going to be toe-curling television if it tips too far into his now trademark over-earnestness,” the insider said.
Meanwhile, a few days ago, Colbert appeared on an emotional episode of “The Late Show.” He gave a tour of the historic set at Ed Sullivan Theatre. The show has been shot at this place since 1993; therefore, the host spoke fondly about the set. “Now every time I walk out on stage, I look around and try to drink it in because you’re never gonna get this again,” he shared.
