Jack Quaid joins the God of War video game in a surprise role, with a story built around Laufey. The franchise moved from Greek spectacle to Norse intimacy, and Laufey sits right at its emotional center. Quaid is best known for his breakout role as Hughie Campbell, the relatable vigilante from Amazon Prime’s The Boys.
The Boys star Jack Quaid joins the God of War universe
Jack Quaid, known for grounding The Boys with raw humanity, has now joined God of War, a Norse tale anchored by Laufey.
In a new “Meet the Cast” clip, PlayStation introduced the performers for the upcoming God of War: Laufey. Alongside Quaid, returning star Deborah Ann Woll steps into a bigger role as the legendary warrior Faye.
Additionally, Perlina Lau joins the God of War cast for her first game role as Rue, an unusual character. Rue is the sentient “badass” ribbon tied to Faye’s sword, constantly warning her wielder of danger. Yet when a fight breaks out, Rue is more than ready to roll. Combat in this game ditches Kratos’ slow, weighty Ragnarök approach and goes back to the quick, stylish combat of the original Greek saga.
As for Jack Quaid’s God of War role, his motion-capture suit came with a bulky plastic-tubing cube attached. That’s because he’s playing a cube, technically Phranque, a cosmic cube from the realm of The Everywhen. Phranque, the cosmic cube, also guards every living being in The Everywhen, the realm where the games are set.
Speaking about his God of War cube character, Quaid said, “Phranque is … a cosmic cube that you meet in this world called the Everywhen. When you start playing this game, you get the feeling that the Everywhen is in trouble and Phranque will stop at nothing to protect all the living creatures that inhabit this world.”
As of yet, there’s still no official release date for God of War: Laufey. Sony announced it during State of Play as “coming soon,” confirming it as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
