Anthony Head has sadly passed away at the age of 72. The British actor was best known for his role as Rupert Giles in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Beyond the popular 90s series, he appeared in countless others, including Ted Lasso, Merlin, Persuasion, The Inbetweeners, and Little Britain.
The actor died “of complications due to pneumonia”

In a statement given to the media, Anthony’s daughters announced his passing and shared details regarding his cause of death.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father,” said Emily and Daisy Head. “He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family.”
“It has been, and forever will be, an honor and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many,” the statement went on.
Elsewhere, Anthony’s daughters said he will be “dearly” missed by those who knew him. That includes his “friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in.”
Speaking of shows, they said that Anthony “loved his job very much.” As such, he “always considered himself incredibly lucky” to do it.
“Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them,” they said. “How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us.”
The family ended their statement by “kindly” asking for privacy at this difficult time.
Anthony is not the only star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to have passed away in recent years. Nicholas Brendon died of natural causes at the age of 54 earlier this year, while Michelle Trachtenberg passed away last year at just 39 years old.
