Dwayne Johnson’s Political Retreat Draws Hollywood Criticism

Dwayne Johnson‘s views on being silent about politics are drawing criticism from the Hollywood industry. He earlier said that he would refrain from publicly endorsing and would keep politics to himself. He revealed what his experience of being vocal about politics has taught him while sharing his utmost dislike for this specific profession.

Dwayne Johnson faces backlash from Hollywood over his politics

Dwayne Johnson received backlash over his staying out of politics from Hollywood peers, including Wil Wheaton and George Takei. The Star Trek: The Next Generation star took to Threads to slam Johnson. He wrote, “So disappointing to find out he is such a coward.” On the other hand, Takei also took to the same platform to call him out by saying, “Silence is complicity.”

This backlash comes amid a published interview from a few weeks ago by Esquire, where Johnson revealed how he approaches politics now. “What I have learned through experience is that I need to keep—need, not want—the main thing. And the main thing for me, the thing that in the morning I swing my legs out of bed and I run towards, is creating. It’s art. It’s storytelling. I’ve learned I’m going to keep my politics to myself,” he said.

Johnson further revealed that there are moments when anyone can talk about anything. However, he approaches things differently; if he thinks something is wrong, he admits it. Whereas if the “Moana” actor feels he has a better understanding of a certain matter, he shares his outlook. “Politics is omnipresent and it’s forever. I don’t like it. I hate it at times. I hate the slinging. I hate all the bullshit that comes with it,” he said, showcasing his dislike towards politics.

In 2024, Johnson revealed that he regretted endorsing Joe Biden earlier. Therefore, he remained mum during the 2024 elections, as he wanted to avoid the same mistake. He said, “The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time… Am I going to do it again this year? That answer’s no” (via The New York Post).
