Donald Trump reportedly wants 47 trees in Lafayette Square
On June 28, The Washington Post reported that Donald Trump wants the Lafayette Square public park, located in front of the White House premises, to have exactly 47 maple trees. The president reportedly noted that he intends to see this particular number of trees in the park as a nod to his role as the country’s 47th president.
The Post cited two anonymous sources who shared that the 47 trees would be maple trees, as they are Trump’s favorite. The insiders also noted that the president has often taken a hands-on approach in overseeing all his ongoing renovation plans in Washington and the White House premises.
Trump had called Lafayette Square “the entrance to the White House” in the past. It has previously featured “several dozen” trees. As of now, it remains unclear whether the president would remove or add trees to the existing array in order to achieve the 47 count. Meanwhile, the two sources have clarified that Trump has not officially finalized his plan for the 47 trees. The president’s vision will only be confirmed by a formal announcement.
The report of Trump’s potential Lafayette Square update comes amid his recent visit to all his renovation sites in Washington, D.C., with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. This included the Reflecting Pool, the East Potomac Golf Links, and Lafayette Park.
In a June 29 Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “The visit to Lafayette Park, opposite the front entrance of the White House, which is now complete except for a replacement of some of the original pavers, was wonderful.” The president added, “Lafayette Park has not looked so good since its inception in 1820!”
