Selena Gomez gave Benny Blanco a way out before going public.
Blanco described the conversation in an interview with El País’ Icon magazine, published July 13. The couple began dating in the summer of 2023 and kept it quiet before Gomez confirmed the romance that December. They married in September 2025.

Gomez then put the choice to him directly, asking, “Are you sure you want to do this?” She added she would understand if he preferred to stay friends.
His answer was blunt. “You know what? Screw it,” Blanco, 38, whose real name is Benjamin Levin, said outright. He credited their support system for making the call easier. However, Blanco still guards his privacy.
“I don’t like to expose my life,” he said, talking about the issues famous people face, where saying one thing attracts criticism and saying another can lead you under scrutiny. He rarely posts on Instagram outside of work, though he makes exceptions for his wife or a good meal.
He frames the attention as shared work. “She has been dealing with this her whole life.” Blanco said, “So it’s something we have to face together.” He called fame a necessary evil for the things he loves, including his wife.
Gomez has described the same comfort. Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in 2024, the 33-year-old said that she felt safest in this relationship and said leaning on someone who understands her world helps. In 2023, she confirmed the romance in an Instagram comment, calling Blanco “her absolute everything.”
