Some reports speculated that the power couple might be heading for a split. The 48-year-old human rights lawyer reportedly admitted that life was “easier” before marriage. Her remarks fueled rumors of trouble behind the scenes.
“It was a weird phenomenon. I used to have my work life and my personal life, and they could look quite different. I was able to not have them mix… and then I got married, and that changed quite a lot,” Amal said at a Cartier Dialogues event in Bangkok during an appearance earlier this month.
Clooney also shared her frustrations about becoming more aware of how the public perceived her after marriage. In the early days of the relationship, she began second-guessing everyday choices, including what she wore. She worried about how those choices might be viewed because of her professional responsibilities as an attorney.
The lawyer added, “I wouldn’t allow that factor to stop me from doing things that were important for my family, or for my relationship. But it was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got. And it was just something new to navigate.”
Amal and George tied the knot in Venice, Italy, in September 2014, a year after they met. The couple shares 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. They co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2016, which supports legal aid and human rights work worldwide.
