Larry David reportedly took a shot at RFK Jr. in the latest episode of his HBO series Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America. David’s new comedy show featured an anti-vaccine character named Bobby, through whom the comedian appears to take a swipe at RFK Jr. Interestingly, the duo were once close friends in real life.
Larry David seemingly tells RFK Jr. to ‘drop dead’ on new HBO show
Larry David reportedly did not hold back in his apparent swipe against RFK Jr. in the new episode of his HBO comedy sketch that debuted last month. In the show, David portrays the mother of Jonas Salk, the scientist who created the first successful polio vaccine (via Entertainment Weekly).
A character named Bobby, inspired by RFK Jr., laments that the vaccine will “kill people” and “give them heart attacks!” David’s character retaliates in response by saying: “Drop dead, Bobby. You should die a dog’s death. You don’t know anything about science, you’re not a doctor.”
Furthermore, David took a jab at Kennedy’s current role and stated: “If you were in charge, God help us all! If some idiot, some moron, ever put you in charge, that would be a dark day for humanity.”
For those unversed, Kennedy is the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Notably, his appointment raised a lot of eyebrows because of his controversial views on vaccines.
Interestingly, Kennedy and David were once close friends, and David even introduced Kennedy to his wife, Cheryl Hines. David and Hines costarred on HBO’s long-running comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm. She played his wife; Hines married Kennedy in 2014.
Previously, Hines hinted that she thinks that David and Kennedy aren’t close anymore due to politics. In December, she told NewsNation, “I think he’s mad Bobby’s in the administration.”
Moreover, Rosie O’Donnell told Variety that she thinks it’s “wild” David played matchmaker between Kennedy and his on-screen wife Hines. “I’m sure it’s a moment he regrets,” O’Donnell said.
