New courtroom testimony added disturbing details to the case against singer D4vd during his preliminary hearing in Los Angeles. Prosecutors argued that his Tesla contained numerous air fresheners while it also concealed the decomposing remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
The testimony came from an LAPD criminalist. Prosecutors also introduced photos that documented the vehicle’s interior.
Court testimony detailed air fresheners and odor documented inside D4vd’s Tesla
According to TMZ, prosecutors displayed photographs showing at least 11 air fresheners throughout D4vd’s Tesla. LAPD criminalist Chelsea Murillo testified that investigators found them inside the center console, rear-seat pockets, and the vehicle’s front trunk, where Celeste’s remains lay inside two bags.
Murillo also described what she noticed when she examined the vehicle on Sept. 9, 2025, one day after investigators discovered the body. According to Rolling Stone, she testified, “The odor resembled a decomposing body, based on my professional experience.”
Murillo also examined suspected blood evidence inside the Tesla. She testified that stains appeared inside a lower rear storage compartment. She sprayed Bluestar, a chemical that detects possible blood traces, across several areas. Parts of the rear trunk and nearby paneling glowed afterward. She collected swabs for laboratory testing.
During cross-examination, defense attorney Blair Berk highlighted another detail. Murillo acknowledged that only two swabs produced blood DNA after investigators removed the bags. Neither sample came from the passenger compartment.
Another LAPD criminalist, Lauren Wallace, later testified about evidence from D4vd’s rental home. She said Bluestar illuminated sections of the garage floor, nearby rubber mats, a rowing machine, a green tarp, and stained wipes recovered from a trash bag. Wallace also inspected an inflatable pool that prosecutors alleged D4vd used while dismembering Celeste’s body. She noticed dryer sheets stuck to the pool before Bluestar revealed another glowing area.
Earlier testimony also focused on D4vd’s finances. Interscope executives testified that the label paid the singer and related companies more than $5.1 million between 2022 and 2025 before ending his recording contract in December 2025. Another witness estimated he earned roughly $12 million between 2023 and 2025.
Prosecutors charged D4vd with murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. He pleaded not guilty. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman also said prosecutors continued considering the death penalty.
