Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee admitted to being deep in addiction when the band was peaking.
He recalled severe incidents of alcohol and drugs. He also revealed the wildest thing he had injected.
The shocking confession came during a candid interview
Lee appeared on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast and recollected the lowest point in his life. At one point Lee and the bass player were “doing a s—t load of heroin and we ran out.” With their stock run dry, they were at a loss at 3 or 4 am morning.
According to Page Six, Lee recalled his bandmate Nikki Sixx filling the cap with alcohol. Then they “pulled a couple of syringes” and injected the alcohol into their veins. “We were shooting Jack Daniels,” Lee confessed incredulously.
Even when they were shooting up, Lee felt, “OK, we could just drink this, but we’re shooting it. This is f—king wrong and somebody’s going to die.” Lee also talked of the time that he and his bandmate would “eat handfuls” of sleeping pills before going out to party.
He also noted that in 1989 he felt that they needed to go to rehab, or “someone was gonna die.” Lee describes their state as being “zombies” at that time.
However, the rehab effect was short-lived. During their final concert of the “Mr. Feelgood” tour in 1990, things unravelled yet again. Lee and lead singer Vince Neil went to a strip club and relapsed with alcohol. Lee told Shepard that “three years” was the longest he’s been sober.
“I get so excited that I’m like, ‘Oh my god, dude, I’ve been sober for a year,’ and I celebrate. That’s the f—ing problem,” Lee said, explaining the vicious cycle. Lee’s sobriety battles continued as he posted a penis photo in 2022 when he was on a “motherf–king bender.”
“A couple of weeks ago, we had like a two-week break off the tour, and I went on a motherf–king bender, bro,” Lee admitted onstage at the time.
Lee’s last rehab stay was in 2019 when he relapsed heavily with alcohol. Tommy Lee is the co-founder and longtime drummer of Mötley Crüe. It was one of the best-selling heavy metal bands of all time. He also went solo and remained a popular rockstar for over four decades.
