Mark Ruffalo just delivered a scorching response after Paramount leveled a serious accusation against him. The actor addressed the studio’s claims after his criticism of a major corporate merger sparked a heated public exchange.
Mark Ruffalo responds after getting accused of being antisemitic
Mark Ruffalo responded to Paramount’s accusations of antisemitism in a post on X. The four-time Oscar-nominated actor called the accusation “appalling and fundamentally dishonest.” He pushed back against the studio’s characterization of his criticism.
Ruffalo maintained that questioning a military technology contract or its executives does not equal attacking Jewish people. Instead, he stated that his own political convictions drive his views. The actor further added that no one should read them as hostility toward the Jewish community.
Additionally, he highlighted how Jewish people have shaped his career and personal life. Ruffalo credited Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones with deeply influencing his understanding of acting, activism, and humanism. He described them as integral to every stage of his life.
Meanwhile, the controversy traces back to Ruffalo sharing a video of former Oracle chief Safra Catz on Instagram. Catz described some of Oracle’s technology as deeply unsettling at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in 2024. Specifically, she discussed Oracle’s tech in connection to the Israel-Gaza conflict. Ruffalo then went further and labeled the conflict a mass atrocity sustained by an oppressive system driven by Oracle.
Notably, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison’s son, David Ellison, owns Paramount. In response, a Paramount representative labeled Ruffalo’s comments as antisemitic. The studio also urged for a calmer tone in the debate over its $110 billion merger with Warner Bros.
The representative argued that applying terms like mass atrocity and systemic oppression to a corporate deal goes too far. Furthermore, they stated that such language diminishes the genuine suffering those words are meant to convey. Ruffalo has firmly opposed the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger throughout this process. The deal currently remains on hold due to a lawsuit filed by 12 state attorneys general led by California.
