Kacey Musgraves has been making headlines over her concerts lately, and she recently surprised fans during her Chicago show with a move involving deportation that sparked a wider debate over the issue.
Kacey Musgraves said children with deported parents need legal and financial help
Recently, on Friday, the 38-year-old singer paused her opening-night concert at Chicago’s United Center to make a special birthday wish. Instead of asking for gifts, Kacey Musgraves urged fans to donate to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, saying the nonprofit helps children whose parents immigration authorities have “unfairly” deported.
According to Fox News, Musgraves said, “It’s a wonderful organization, and they help give aid — legal aid — and money to children whose parents have been deported unfairly.”
“It’s not a political thing. It’s just, these kids need help,” she added.
Musgraves has also supported the Young Center in other ways. In April, Depop announced a sale of 20 pieces from her personal wardrobe.
The collection included outfits from music videos, tours and special appearances. All proceeds would benefit the Young Center.
The Grammy-winning singer also praised the sale. She said she loved that it supported such a meaningful cause.
Musgraves also supported the three Gamez-Cuéllar brothers, aged 18, 14 and 12. She invited them to open three of her Texas shows in May.
Musgraves’ concerts are still underway. She will perform in Toronto on Aug. 24 and Boston on Aug. 28.
She will then perform at Madison Square Garden in New York on Aug. 31.
The Young Center advocates for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children. It also supports children in government custody.
