From an incredibly romantic one-on-one date, to a heart-wrenching elimination, here is our recap for The Golden Bachelor Episode 5!

Hometowns work a little differently on The Golden Bachelor

The episode kicks off on a happy note, with the six remaining women cheering and dancing around in the pool. Ellen notes that the connection she has with Gerry is “more than she could imagine”, while Faith Martin is still worried about her lack of one-on-one time with Gerry. Tensions rise when Jesse Palmer walks in and announces that Gerry will only be taking three women to hometowns instead of the traditional four. The pressure is on!

An adventurous one-on-one date for Faith!

(Bachelor Nation/ABC)

Faith does not stress for long, as it is soon revealed she is the lucky recipient of the final one-on-one date! Yay Faith! Gerry comes to pick her up for their special day, and says that Faith “has a lot going for her”! Faith is one of Gerry’s frontrunners for sure.

Gerry and Faith have a fun day ahead, that begins with an exciting helicopter ride. In true Bachelor Nation fashion, they fly over the mansion while the rest of the women look on. The pair share a romantic kiss and Faith gushes that Gerry “makes her feel important”. Awe!

Faith asks Gerry if the helicopter is really going to make its landing on a boat, and he responds that he is “serious as a heart attack”. That’s a line I’m gonna have to start using myself! During a more serious conversation, Gerry learns a little more about Faith’s past. She explains that she grew up non-traditional, and did not have a mother or father. Due to this, Faith admitted that she often felt “not whole” and saw a lot of dysfunction in her life.

Being the amazing person that he is, Gerry remarks that he is absolutely “intrigued by Faith as a person”. He offers her the rose, which she happily accepts. Faith has officially secured the first hometown date in Golden Bachelor history!

And now for the final group date

The Golden Bachelor Episode 5 Recap
ABC/John Fleenor

It is officially time for Gerry’s final group date as The Golden Bachelor, and he surely went all out! Gerry takes Theresa Nist, Leslie Fhima, Ellen, Sandra, and Susan to an amusement park for a night filled with fun! Gerry and the women partake in a number of carnival themed activities, including a water pistol game, eating cotton candy, and a fun ride on the Viking ship. These are some adventurous senior citizens!

After spending time with the whole group, the women begin to pull Gerry for some one-on-one time. Theresa says she is falling in love with Gerry, and really wants him to meet her family. Sandra admits that she has been single for 29 years, while Susan is nervous since she is unsure whether Gerry will choose her for a hometown. Gerry notes that he and Leslie have had “a nice progression”, while he and Ellen take a private roller coaster ride!

At the conclusion of the night, Gerry tears up and reveals that he is not yet ready to hand out the group date rose. Gerry explains that he needs another day to find clarity, since this is the biggest decision he has had to make yet. The women understand, but are understandably a bit disappointed.

Time for the rose ceremony

ABC/John Fleenor

It’s the final rose ceremony before hometowns, and there are only two for Gerry to hand out. The women are nervous and understandably so. Theresa is really stressed about the possibility of Gerry not meeting her family, and Ellen feels like she laid it all out on the group date. Gerry walks in and tells the women that they all look beautiful. On a more serious note, he admits that he had a sleepless night trying to figure out what he was going to do.

Leslie gets the first rose of the evening, and breathes a huge sigh of relief. In a confessional, Theresa states that she “came for love and found it”. To the surprise of pretty much no one, Theresa snags the final rose. Faith, Leslie, and Theresa seem like a pretty solid final three!

Unfortunately, this means that Ellen, Sandra, and Susan will be going home. Saying goodbye is never easy for Gerry, but he had a particularly difficult time saying farewell to Ellen. Gerry asks to walk her out, and admits that letting go of her was the hardest decision. Ellen says that Gerry is a “special guy” and wishes him the best.

The Golden Bachelor continues Thursdays on ABC.
