Catherine Zeta-Jones has an easily recognizable name, given that this celebrity is an A-list actress. Thanks to her extensive resume, complete with blockbuster films, television roles, and endorsement deals with well-known corporations, Catherine is richer than rich. But there is also a downside to living in such a blessed banknote-filled bubble, and Catherine, like most high-profile movers and shakers, might have just fallen into this pitfall.
As indicated in a recent interview, this actress appears to be losing her grip on reality. Her statements demonstrate that Catherine has grown blind to the lives of the majority of our population. However, celebrity wealth blindness is a real thing, which sucks, as many people are barely surviving right now.
Therefore, the last thing that anyone wants to hear is how relatable an uber-wealthy star believes that they are. Hear us out, as we adore Catherine. Nevertheless, her latest comments were clueless, and statements like hers are quickly becoming a problem in this unbalanced world that we are all supposed to call home.
Catherine Zeta-Jones believes that owning four homes is “comfortable”

The Times, a London-based daily national newspaper, recently interviewed Catherine. In this interview, Catherine spoke about her real estate endeavors, which are remarkably pricey. Her Stateside homes total roughly $30 million, while her Bermuda residence is slightly over $10 million (but it is currently on the market). Additionally, her home in Spain costs over $30 million, while her Canadian residence comes complete with an unknown price tag, which is likely equally high.
As the journalist penned, Catherine owns four homes (plus the one currently on the market). Two of these homes are in New York, while one is in Canada and the other is in Spain. “I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty, but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” Catherine remarked.
Currently, the thought of owning just one home is an unattainable goal for a significant portion of our society. Therefore, one house is a dream, and two homes are a luxury. Catherine, however, has four, which she then labeled as a comfortable, not extravagant way of living. Tell this to most people, who would define comfortable as having enough funds in their accounts to cover their asses for several months, tops, should any unexpected events arise.
Catherine earned everything that she has. We are not diminishing her strides. However, when Catherine started speaking about her assets humbly, this is where our raised eyebrows formed. Now, we are far from being the only ones with this feeling, as ever since this interview came out, other outlets have also gently reminded Catherine to choose her words a bit more wisely.
Why celebrity wealth blindness is a major issue

Catherine has an estimated net worth of $150 million. This amount is staggering, even while understanding the basic concept that not all of these funds are liquid. Making her affluent throne even more out of touch, the total net worth for her household stands at $350 million, thanks to her equally famous husband, Michael Douglas. To conclude, Catherine is sitting prettier than almost everyone else on this planet.
According to Kiplinger, people living in the top 1% of the U.S. in 2025 carry a net worth of $11.6 million. On the other end, the top 50% have a net worth of $585,000. Meanwhile, the median net worth in 2022 was $192,900. Now, I do not know about any of you, but I know very few people living in this median tax bracket.
Instead, as ADP reports, over half of our global workforce is now living paycheck to paycheck. This statistic shows that a significant percentage of society is living in an “oh shit” type of place. Meaning, unexpected expenses will always threaten their very livelihoods. This very real, very triggering aspect makes statements about feeling “comfortable” with four houses obnoxious as hell to hear about.
While people are growing increasingly worried in this timeline, fearful about keeping their lights on and feeding their children, blindness is the last thing that we need as a society. Instead, we need these personalities to stand down about their luxuries while speaking up for those who are struggling. Because here we are, watching the ultrarich thrive while social inequalities deepen, driving us further away from an equitable society.
