In case you hadn’t heard (…how?) Taylor Swift got engaged this week. And as you can imagine, everyone is desperate to know more about that mountain of an engagement ring. Travis Kelce‘s pick for the songstress includes a rare stone. We guess we’ll be seeing a lot more of them now…
Travis Kelce’s engagement ring for Taylor Swift dates back to the 1700s
Taylor Swift’s engagement was always going to get people talking. And it’s not just the proposal that’s getting attention. The singer’s ring has brought an old diamond to the forefront of fashion once again.
Taylor’s rock is an “old mine cut”. What exactly is that? You may ask. Well, it dates back to the 18th century, when diamonds were cut by hand. It’s not yet known whether the singer’s diamond is an original or a modern stone cut in the same style.
Experts agree that an original stone is the more sustainable choice, and are also prized by collectors given their relative rarity. So, if the NFL star did shell out for an original, you can bet it didn’t come cheap. Estimates on the cost of the ring have varied wildly so far, ranging from $40,000 to $5 million. Only two people know for sure – Travis and Kindred Lubeck, who designed the ring.
In any case, we’re sure Taylor is delighted with the hefty diamond. Especially given that, according to Travis’ dad Ed, the singer was “antsy” to get the engagement done and dusted.
The proposal was officially announced on August 26 via a joint Instagram post. However, sources have since revealed that the couple were actually sitting on the happy news for a few weeks. Travis planned an intimate proposal in the garden of his Kansas home.
