It was a good Sunday night for Lady Gaga. The singer scooped multiple awards at this year’s VMAs, including the coveted Artist of the Year trophy. Taking to the stage to accept the Moon Man, she was visibly emotional and had a special message for her fans.
Lady Gaga won Artist of the Year at the VMAs
Gaga picked up a total of four awards at the event, making her the biggest winner of the night. Gaga already had 18 VMAs before the event (where is she storing them?). She beat out other nominees like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé to win the Artist of the Year award.
Taking to the stage a gothic-inspired frock, she told fans: “I dedicate this award to the audience. You very much deserve a stage to shine on, and I give you all my applause. Thank you ‘little monsters,’ my fans, for always supporting me and for always supporting the monster in me.”
She also thanked her partner, Michael Polansky, saying: “Michael, creating this year with you was a beautiful, beautiful dream, and you have been my partner every step of the way. I dedicate this to you too, my love.”
The hitmaker was dressed in a black Marc Jacobs gown complete with ruffles and headpiece. It was definitely a dramatic look, but then you’d have to be to not get upstaged by Doja Cat eating lipstick.
She also picked up awards for Best Direction and Best Art Direction, as well as Best Collaboration for her duet “Die with a Smile” with Bruno Mars.
Lady Gaga has been strutting her stuff on her Mayhem Ball Tour for the past two months. The tour wraps up early next year in Tokyo, Japan. The singer left the VMAs early in order to perform one of two shows at Madison Square Garden.
