Evidently, Ricky Martin is a man of many talents.
During Sunday’s MTV VMAs, the Latin singer had to think on his feet after experiencing what he called a “wardrobe malfunction.” The Puerto Rican-born artist was named the inaugural Latin Icon on Sunday.
It appears as though there were no seamstresses around to help him shortly before having to go on stage, so he took matters into his own hands.
Fortunately, the man who gave us smash hits like Livin’ la Vida Loca thought quickly, utilizing a hidden skill and ensuring the public didn’t see more of him than he’d bargained for.
Ricky Martin had to sew his own pants to avoid exposing himself at the VMAs
On his Instagram account, the Grammy Award-winning singer showed a photo of himself sewing up his trousers shortly before going on stage. Ricky was seen shirtless on the couch backstage, displaying only his abs and upper body. He looked down at his pants in the photo while stitching together his waistband as he described.
His account shows a 12-slide carousel document of his routine beforehand. The Latin superstar was presented with his special award by longtime friend and singer Jessica Simpson.
“Thank you so much for your love, I don’t even know where to start,” Ricky said in his speech. “This is very simple. This is for you all … I am addicted to your applause,” he continued. “That’s why I keep coming back. It’s you, not only here in America, but all of the world.”
Ricky dedicated his award to his four children. “Everything I do, I do it with you in my mind and in my heart. And that’s it! I love you,” Ricky concluded.
Ricky’s album A Quien Quiera Escuchar was named Best Latin Pop Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
