Taylor Swift calls out bad posture in the new Target commercial
Taylor’s new album The Life of a Showgirl hits stores this week, and the singer has been promoting it HARD. The latest campaign is an ad with Target for an exclusive edition record.
In the 30-second commercial, Taylor acts as both director and performer. As director, she gives a variety of instructions, including “it’s giving no girl, not showgirl.”
Many fans on Reddit applauded the Taylor’s return to self-deprecating form. And some were quick to point out that some of the references were criticisms the singer often gets from fans and non-fans alike.
In the vid, Taylor asks “what is going on with the posture?”. A fan on Reddit commented: “Little shout-out to the haters that rag on her posture.”
Elsewhere in the ad, the singer says, mock-frustratedly: “what are we doing?”, “elegance … charm … not that,” and “she’s got cat hair all over her.”
The short ad won over fans. One Reddit user commented: “This is the side of Taylor I love seeing, and what I remember as an early fan. Love this!”
Another user agreed, saying: “Same! Her goofy, funny side is underrated.”
A third commenter added: “This is so cute. Low-key and funny.”
Taylor previously spoke about her habit of firing back at her haters in her songs. Talking to CBS, she said: “Well, when they stop coming for me, I will stop singing to them.”
The Life of a Showgirl will be released on October 3.
