Sydney Sweeney gets a career win amid controversy
Sydney Sweeney was awarded the Achievement in Acting Award for her performance in Christy amid controversy surrounding her American Eagle jeans ad campaign. She received the award at the Hamptons Film Festival on Saturday.
Sweeney celebrated the win on Instagram. The two-time Emmy nominee shared a series of pictures of herself at the event. In the pictures, she wore a white blazer mini dress, a sheer tulle skirt, and a pair of Jimmy Choo heels. She also wore this dress for a party later in the night. However, she traded the heels for a pair of white sneakers.
“thank you @hamptonsfilm for the achievement in acting award for @christy.movie,” she captioned the post.
The White Lotus actress’ achievement comes two months after her recent film, Eden, struggled at the box office. The film, made on a gross budget of $55 million and a net budget of $35 million, only raked in $1 million on its opening weekend. The film has since made $2.4 million worldwide. Further, it has a critics’ score of 58% and an audience score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Eden’s box office troubles were preceded by those of Americana. The film had a production budget of $9 million, but grossed only $500,000.
Christy will be released in U.S. theaters on November 7, 2025. David Michôd directed the sports biopic from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mirrah Foulkes and a story penned by Katherine Fugate.
Besides Sweeney, Christy’s cast includes Ben Foster, Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman, Tony Cavalero, and Miles Mussenden.
