Brad Pitt’s One Mistake Could’ve Ended With Him ‘In the Wall’ While Shooting F1

F1 turned out to be quite a success, with strong critical and commercial response, but it took a lot from everyone, including star Brad Pitt, to get the film to that level. In fact, the sports drama film’s director, Joseph Kosinski, revealed that on one of the shoot days, the conditions were so poor that a single mistake could have seriously harmed Pitt.

F1 director shares how Brad Pitt’s one mistake could’ve cost him while shooting F1

In a recent special screening of F1, director Joseph Kosinski opened up about one particular dangerous part of the shoot, where Brad Pitt had to go with no mistakes, as any error could have caused the actor to crash into the wall.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Kosinski shared, “The scariest part was definitely Las Vegas…That race — it’s at night, it’s cold, the tires don’t have a lot of grip, and Brad did not have the opportunity to practice that track at all before the shoot because it only exists those three days out of the year.”

Brad Pitt faced a temperature of around 57 degrees Fahrenheit, which is extremely low by F1 standards. The Las Vegas GP takes place on the Las Vegas Strip, which lacks the run-off areas prevalent at most other circuits. So, it is not uncommon for drivers to crash into the track barriers.

“I would say Vegas was really where I was crossing my fingers because again, it was so cold and the tires don’t have a lot of grip, and if he made one mistake, he’d be in the wall,” Kosinski revealed. “It was by far the most dangerous thing we did,” the director said. “But [Pitt] came through with flying colors, even though [his character] crashes in the film. On the shoot day, he was great.”

He concluded, “Luckily, Brad and Damson actually had a lot of natural talent, so we had a lot to work with. They were really, really good drivers, and you can see that when you see the film…I never felt like we were being irresponsible.”

The 61-year-old Brad Pitt put in a lot of work before shooting this film, and it turned out to be a memorable entry in his glittering career.
