Pop star Sabrina Carpenter is getting ready for a huge night on SNL. In a newly released promo, Carpenter playfully slips into the voice and mannerisms of Carrie Bradshaw, the protagonist of the highly successful show Sex and the City.
Sabrina Carpenter set to host SNL
SNL released the clip as part of the build-up to Carpenter’s dual role as host and musical guest, and the spot makes its intentions clear: this is a wink to Sex and the City fans.
Carpenter narrates in a Carrie-like voiceover: “New York is one big apple, and I’m taking my bite at Saturday Night Live.” Later, poking fun at herself, she jokes, “In these heels? Probably, like, 5’4.”
The promo reminds viewers of SATC, cosmopolitan in hand, playful asides about dating and fashion, coupled with a montage of encounters with SNL cast members playing city types (including a flirty “Mr. Big” played by Marcello Hernandez.)
Recently, Saturday Night Live welcomed five new cast members and bid farewell to a few familiar faces following its 50th anniversary celebration.
Sabrina, who already performed during that special, is the perfect guest. She is a pop star who can attract younger fans while still fitting into classic skits like this fun Sex and the City spoof.
Previously, while speaking with Rolling Stone, Sabrina said, “I’ve really just been making things, excited about them, and then continuing forth.
“Not to be dramatic, but what can I do while my legs still work? I’m limber, let’s use it. My brain is sharp, let’s write. I try not to get sad about the fact that nothing lasts forever, but genuinely, it’s such a beautiful time right now. I want to soak it up and keep making things while I’m feeling this way.”
Fans can catch Sabrina Carpenter hosting and performing on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, airing at 8:30 p.m. PT/11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
