Stacey Hatfield’s home birth led to her death

Stacey passed away on September 29. In an Instagram post on Sunday, her husband, Nathan Warnecke, revealed that she had passed away while giving birth. She was just 30 years old. The couple’s newborn son, Axel, survived.

The Aussie health food influencer had opted for a home birth. In his post on social media, Nathan said that her health took a turn for the worst after giving birth. He wrote: “Tragically, shortly after, an unforeseen and extremely rare complication arose and she passed after being transferred to hospital. Hospital staff were amazing and did the utmost to help, but ultimately nothing could be done despite their best efforts.”

He added that he takes some peace in the thought that “her last moments on earth were the happiest I’ve ever seen her.”

Stacey was the founder of Natural Spoonfuls. The Melbourne-based influencer created the venture after her own health struggles inspired her to share simple, nourishing recipes.

Nathan said that having kids was Stacey’s ultimate goal. He wrote in his post: “It was her life’s biggest dream to be a mum. She did it. On her terms, exactly the way she always dreamed of doing it.”

He added: “She loved being pregnant and over the last 9 months told our son she loved him everyday. She held Axel when he was born, nursed him, saw that he was a boy and loved him. She loved him so much and still, continues to love him.”
