A new Blondie biopic could be in the works. While there was a failed attempts to get a movie off the ground almost two decades ago, it seems this time things may actually work out. And Debbie Harry has a clear idea of who she’d love to see playing her on the big screen.
Debbie Harry would “be in heaven” if Florence Pugh played her in the Blondie biopic

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Debbie revealed that a new movie about Blondie could be coming. Director Charlotte Wells is reportedly ready to get the project going.
And Debbie has clearly given the lead role some thought. She said: “If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven. I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything.”
She may be in luck. Back in 2020, Florence was asked which famous figure she’d like to play. She replied: “Blondie, just because she’s so cool,” per Entertainment Weekly.
The Oscar-nominated actress could also be a pretty good fit. She’s not only won critical acclaim for her performances – with rumors she could be the next Bond Girl – but is also a talented musician. She used to perform covers under the name Flossie Rose, and she’s also written and sung songs for the 2023 movie A Good Person.
Let’s just hope the project doesn’t go the same way as an earlier attempt at a biopic – i.e., nowhere. In 2007, Kirsten Dunst said she’d been in talks to portray Debbie in a new movie. She said: “I met with Debbie in Miami, and we both hit it off. We’re both Jersey girls, and she wants me to play her. It’s like the most amazing thing! I will work so hard, because she is the coolest woman of all time!”
Elsewhere in the Times interview, Debbie revealed that she and Blondie bandmate Chris Stein are putting together a documentary about their musical legacy.
