Jesse Eisenberg is performing the most selfless act a person can do by saving a life.
In six weeks, he’ll be donating his kidney to a stranger dealing with advanced kidney disease. Jesse evidently wasn’t only bitten by the acting bug at a young age. He says that he got bitten by the donation bug years ago and is excited to become an altruistic donor.
An altruistic donor is someone who wants to donate a kidney to a person with the advanced disease and whom they don’t know.
Jesse Eisenberg thought about donating his organ 10 years ago
The thought of donating a kidney was not a spur-of-the-moment decision for Jesse. The Social Network actor wanted to do that a decade ago, but never heard back from the organization he reached out to. Recently, though, he found one that got back to him, and he went straight to the hospital for testing to ensure his organs were in good working order.
Speaking on the Today Show, Jesse says there are a lot of positives that come with donating a kidney. “It’s essentially risk-free and so needed.” He adds that “I think people will realize that it’s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination.”
While Jesse is giving the gift of life, he jokingly praised some strangers for taking something valuable recently. On an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Jesse said that the Louvre heist was “very well done.”
Participating in the National Kidney Foundation’s family voucher program comes with additional benefits. Namely, it allows someone to donate their kidney to a stranger now and get vouchers for up to five family members to use in the future should they ever need a transplant.
Jesse’s upcoming movie, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, comes out in theatres on November 14. The following month, he’ll be donating his kidney to save a stranger’s life.
