The Today Show’s Craig Melvin got himself into some hot water with fellow cohost Jenna Bush Hager. The NBC journalist joined Hager on Today with Jenna & Friends, the fourth hour of the popular morning show, on Monday, November 3. However, he admitted something that Hager found “rude” while he tried to explain the situation. Melvin effectively replaced Hoda Kotb when she officially retired as lead anchor of the show in January.
Melvin admits he hasn’t watched Today with Jenna & Friends
Craig Melvin, near the top of the Monday episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, told Jenna Hager, “This is a nice set. You know, I’ve never seen the show.”
Surprised by the admission, Hager replied, “That is so rude!”
Melvin attempted to explain why he has never watched Jenna’s segment, saying it was “because we’re just getting off,” referring to the fact that he cohosts the first three hours of Today before heading out.
Still, Hager wasn’t pleased by him missing her show, telling the producers, “Did you just hear him say he’s never watched the show?”
When Melvin said that he’s “usually in transit” when he gets off, Hager said, “Here’s the thing about it. It’s a full hour.” At that, Melvin finally confessed and replied that he “could probably watch some of it.”
Later in the show, after commending Hager for being able to lead the show with different guest hosts on a frequent basis, Melvin told his cohost, “You and I have been both been in the business long enough to know you sit next to people that you don’t really like a lot.” Hager played it off, responding, “No, I like everybody!”
He wasn’t convinced, though. “Okay, sure, we’ll play along.”
On October 3, Craig Melvin was called out by Jennifer Lopez during an interview after he mentioned her divorce with Ben Affleck.
