David Beckham Finally Receives Knighthood After Years of Waiting

The royal family has recognized David Beckham‘s years of service to sport and charities. King Charles gave the former English footballer a knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

In his lengthy career as a player, David made 115 appearances for England, scoring 17 goals. He featured in three World Cups for his country.

When he wasn’t playing the husband of former singer Victoria Beckham was heavily involved in numerous charitable endeavors. The former England captain is a founding member of Malaria No More UK, which aims to combat that disease in Africa. Being knighted is something that’s felt like a longtime coming for the footballer and philanthropist.

He lifted countless trophies throughout his career as a footballer, but nothing could compare to the pride of being knighted. “This is without doubt my proudest moment,” David said. David won a league title in four different countries during his career as a player and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

He was previously a goodwill ambassador for the humanitarian organization UNICEF in 2005. He believes that his status as a big-name celebrity was a “powerful tool” in the world of charities. Because of this, David says people listened to him and were willing to donate to worthwhile causes. The part-owner of Inter Miami says he gives back because he enjoys doing so.

Earlier this year, the King mentioned David in his birthday honors. It has been a challenging year for the Beckham family, marked by news of their son Brooklyn’s estrangement. Since marrying Nicola Peltz, he has missed numerous family functions, creating plenty of tension as a result.

David says the King praised his suit at the ceremony, a great honor for someone who has always admired Charles’ outfits. He adds that many of his looks over the years were inspired by Charles.
