George Lucas is putting down roots in the Big Smoke. The Star Wars creator is said to have snapped up a mansion in London – and it came with a pretty hefty price tag. The purchase comes amid his efforts to build an impressive five-storey museum in Los Angeles.
Star Wars creator George Lucas is reported to have bought a $52 million London mansion

George purchased his new pad in North West London in September, according to Bloomberg. The Lucasfilm founder bought the mansion off a senior City lawyer.
With a price tag of £40 million ($52 million), it’s one of the largest house purchases in the capital in recent times. Still, it won’t make much of a dent in the filmmaker’s savings. He currently has a net worth of $5.3 billion, per Forbes.
George made most of his billions by selling the Star Wars franchise to Disney in 2012. The sale saw him gain an impressive $4.1 billion in stock and cash.
He’s now largely stepped back from filmmaking. He told WSJ earlier this year: “Disney took it over and they gave it their vision. That’s what happens. Of course I’ve moved past it. I mean, I’ve got a life. I’m building a museum. A museum is harder than making movies.”
The museum is the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, schedules to open in LA next year. The 300,000 square feet building will house huge collections of illustrations, comics, painting, photography, film props and archives, with pieces from artists like Frida Kahlo and Norman Rockwell.
Star Wars fans will be bitterly disappointed if they’re expecting a museum dedicated to the franchise – George has said there’ll only be one gallery devoted to the movies.
Still, there’s plenty of other projects in the works to be excited about, including next year’s The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter, which Ryan Gosling is currently filming in the UK.
