The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen recently spoke about her abbreviated stint on the hit show Gossip Girl. She says the blurred line between her character and her real life forced her to quit the show.
Taylor left her role as Jenny Humphrey prior to the series’ fifth season in 2011. Gossip Girl ran from 2007 to 2012.
Taylor Momsen is getting honest about leaving Gossip Girl

Taylor provided more insight into leaving the series on the November 5 episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. The former actress and lead singer said playing Jenny was “straight-up killing her.” Despite making a good living being on the show, Taylor was only interested in making music. Unfortunately, getting out of her contract was not easy.
On the podcast, Taylor says the show executives considered her ungrateful for wanting to leave the show that propelled her into the limelight. After pushing back and emphasizing her wishes, the writers agreed to write her off the show. However, until the show wrapped, she was prohibited from taking any acting jobs. This worked, as Taylor was set on a punk rock music career.
This past Halloween, Taylor’s band released a six-track EP, Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas. It includes an updated version of “Where Are You Christmas?” from her 25-year-old movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She first performed the holiday ballad, co-written by Mariah Carey, when she played Cindy Lou.
“Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas started as just one song, but the moment we got into the studio, it took on a life of its own,” she said in a statement about the release. “There was so much emotion, nostalgia and chaos wrapped up in it that it didn’t feel right to leave it standing alone. To really honor it, I needed to build a whole world around it. That’s how this project became a full body of work. Something bigger, deeper and far more personal than I ever expected.”
