The Today Show host Carson Daly asked Martha Stewart whether she has ever tried one particular drug. The lifestyle guru appeared as a guest on the popular NBC morning show on Wednesday, October 5, to showcase several soups for a party and announce the re-release of her very first book, “Entertaining.” When she got to the station with her mother’s mushroom soup, Daly surprised her and his fellow cohosts Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker by asking if the 84-year-old had ever “done mushrooms” in her life.
Savannah Guthrie asks Daly if he did mushrooms before the segment
While Martha Stewart described the variety of mushrooms that went into the soup, Daly interrupted her by asking, “Have you ever done mushrooms?”
Surprised by the sudden question on what was supposed to be a casual cooking segment, Stewart dodged it at first. Guthrie, Roker, and Melvin sitting at a table on the side were all stunned.
“I’ve grown mushrooms,” she said. “I grow them in Maine. I have a whole log forest with mushrooms.”
But Daly continue to press her about mushrooms. “Do you ever go out to your garden in the Hamptons and see your mushrooms and just nibble on them a little bit?”
“Uh, raw mushrooms?” Stewart replied. “No, not usually. And you have to be careful picking them all yourself. Watch out, you can die!”
Sensing the awkwardness of the conversation, Guthrie stepped in with a joke, asking Daly, “Did you have mushrooms right before this segment?”
As the cast laughed about the situation, Stewart admitted that she understood the question from the very start.
“I know what you’re talking about. No, I’ve never done mushrooms… yet,” she admitted while stirring the soup and looking at Daly. “But being on these segments with you, I might have to.”
The joke made the cast and crew laugh out loud as Stewart braced herself while saying “Oh, God…” before moving on with making the soup.
