Leonardo DiCaprio sat down for an interview with co-star Benicio del Toro, and they both named their favorite Christopher Nolan movie. Answering the question for Collider, both stars named The Dark Knight as their favorite.
The director used the Batman franchise to explore ethical questions about chaos and order. He told the tale of what a hero means in a troubled city. The Dark Knight, for many viewers, stands out in Nolan’s discography. They understood why Leonardo DiCaprio chose the same instead of Inception.
Also, DiCaprio’s answer comes after he had advised rising actor Timothée Chalamet to avoid doing superhero movies. To be precise, his words were, “no hard drugs and no superhero movies.” (via British Vogue)
The actor claimed that his advice came after realising that studio demands precede artistic integrity and thus, it is always best to avoid superhero films. However, Leonardo DiCaprio feels differently about The Dark Knight Rises films by Christopher Nolan. The studio films were aimed at something darker and more morally complex, and that must be why they earned the actor’s respect.
It should also be noted that each of Nolan’s projects, while having his similar touch, is also unique amongst themselves. As for The Dark Knight, it involves action filmmaking, which has elements grounded in reality. This is not seen in some of the director’s trickier films, such as Inception or Tenet.
