Costco shoppers in Danville, California, got quite the surprise on Thursday.
Actor Simu Liu was seen handing out samples of pork, chicken, and shrimp soup to customers on that day. The samples were for MíLá, a dumpling soup company which aims to reimagine Chinese food in America. Simu serves as the company’s chief content officer.
MíLá’s soup dumplings are available in Costco stores across the United States. The company has been in business since 2018 and has experienced growth since being featured in Costco stores.
Marvel fans begged Simu Liu for a selfie at a local Costco in California

Marvel fans went crazy when spotting the Chinese-born actor, who was once listed on Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2022. The star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings took time out of his busy day to give back, while also taking numerous selfies with fans.
“It’s just an incredible opportunity to give back to the community,” Simu told ABC 7 News. He adds that he and Jen, one of MíLá’s co-founders, saw someone with the company’s soup products. “We kind of surprised them and were able to pay for their groceries, which was really amazing,” adds Simu.
While Simu leads a busy life on screen, he is known for his charitable endeavors. In October 2020, he became an Ambassador for UNICEF Canada. He’s appeared in every Youth Advocacy Summit hosted by the company.
