Cate Blanchett’s Sheer Dress Is Made of Shocking Material

When Cate Blanchett arrived at the Bambi Awards in Munich, she proved exactly why she was the perfect choice to receive an honor celebrating her environmental and humanitarian work. Just like many of her eco-conscious red carpet looks, this time Blanchett opted for a feathery sheer dress that was crafted from plant-derived fibers, standing true to her commitment.

The fashion house behind this plant-based look? None other than Stella McCartney, the luxury brand known for its sustainable choices. With Blanchett as its muse, the dress instantly became the talk of the event.

Cate Blanchett’s sheer dress uses innovative plant-based fabric

Cate Blanchett turned heads in her sheer Stella McCartney dress at the Bambi Awards in Munich and proved why she is an eco-conscious icon. She graced the red carpet in a light purple, feathered sheer gown. The number was by Stella McCartney from its Spring 2026 runway show.

The dress stood out as a plant-based piece, using the world’s first-ever alternative to real feathers, creating an innovative, bird-feather effect. The lilac number was made in collaboration with Fevvers. The outfit fit the actor perfectly, and its free-flowing faux feather added a touch of drama to the look.

The “Thor: Ragnarok” star completed her ensemble with ivory pumps and earrings. She wore her hair down in a deep side part, letting it fall in loose waves. Moreover, Blanchett kept her makeup subtle, allowing all the attention to remain on her eco-friendly outfit.

The innovative piece also aligned perfectly with the actor’s eco-friendly values. Speaking about the dress backstage at Paris Fashion Week, McCartney expressed that no real bird feathers or plastic were used to make the dress.

According to W Magazine, they used naturally-dyed plant-based fibers to make the piece. This was done to show the world that high fashion can move forward “without the animal compromise.”
