Melvin clarifies whether he’s leaving Today on Instagram
Concerns that Craig Melvin would be leaving The Today Show began on Friday after he wrote a tribute to MSNBC, which has rebranded to MS NOW, on Instagram.
“Long before @todayshow, I started my journey at 30 Rock hosting a show on @msnbc,” he wrote, “and spent a decade making unforgettable memories with amazing colleagues. I’m so grateful for the work we did together and will miss those familiar faces.”
Melvin continued by thanking the network for giving him the opportunity to cover a wide range of subjects in the news. “Will always be proud of our work – elections, inaugurations, too many other news events to list, a global pandemic, and a total eclipse. Thanks for the memories, and cheers to the next chapter for @msnownews.”
The post caused many commenters to give him well wishes and telling him to have the best of luck in the next step of his career. Some said that they would always remember his segments. His message comes amid Jennifer Lopez criticizing his interview with her and Melvin being called “rude” by one of fellow cohosts Jenna Bush Hager in the last few months.
In response, Melvin felt that he needed to clarify what he wrote in an additional comment. “Not leaving the today show,” he explained, “Was just saying goodbye to my MSNBC colleagues.”
Numerous fans replying to the comment were relieved to hear that he would be staying with Today. One wrote, “whew I got all sad for a moment!!! I am so glad you are still there…”
