American Idol Contestant Cut After Dad Talks to Paper

Very bad news for one American Idol contestant that reportedly made it into the top 24.

Michael Lynche (a.k.a. Big Mike) was reportedly cut from the show after his father revealed to his local Florida paper, The St. Petersburg Times, that Michael had made the top 24 — a violation of American Idol rules which requires the singers and their families to keep the Hollywood week results quiet until they’re broadcast on TV.

This report comes from Joe’s Place, the same website which recently revealed the top 24 Idol finalists. The site says Michael was replaced in the top 24 over the weekend.

The semifinalists are chosen at the end of Hollywood Week, when more than 120 hopefuls who got golden tickets in regional auditions move on to round two of the tryouts.

FOX has declined to comment on this report.
