MAJOR shake ups in the American Idol judging line up. Ellen DeGeneres announced late yesterday that she has quit the show, after just a year.
In a statement released to multiple media outlets, Ellen stated, “A couple months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next.”
Ellen, 52, replaced Paula Abdul as a judge for the show’s ninth season. “It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for,” her statement continues, before adding that “it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.”
The AI news did not end there as TMZ then confirmed this morning that fellow judge Kara DioGuardi has been fired, and that the show will be going back to a three-judge format.
And who will be replacing Ellen and Kara on the judging panel? According to GossipCop and TMZ, it will be none other than Jennifer Lopez aka Jlo and rocker Steven Tyler.
GossipCop was the first to report the news, when they ran a story last night stating that American Idol had offered the two spots to both Jlo and Steven.
TMZ also confirmed this morning that assuming all deals are finalized, the judge’s panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Adding that the only way Kara will get her job back is if Jlo rejects the offer.
American Idol is reportedly hoping to announce their new judging line up on Monday.

This show is finished. Simon Cowell was the show and crazy Paula and Randy had the right chemistry. The others, not so much.
JLo? Seriously?! I don’t care for her acting or “singing”. I like Steve Tyler. He actually knows how to sing. Think he should have gone with purple and black striped pants though.

I never cared for Jlo all she is famous for is having a fat ass and dating P-Diddy who in my opinion got rich exploiting Biggie after he died also her acting skills sucks and I don’t listen to her music so I’m sure she sucks at that too
This show will just not be the same without Simon….love or hate him, his criticisms were always on point. Without him the show is going to feel like someone let all the air out of the room.
I did not like Kara……she never won me over and as for Ellen, I always thought the she was out of her element.
I think Scary Spice would have been a better addition instead of J-Lo. We need some real personality here.
I like Steven, let’s just hope that his personal demons don’t take over during the show.

When I first read about Ellen leaving American Idol my initial thought was “please take Kara with you!” Fingers crossed that Kara will not be back. The woman could never stop running her mouth and acted as if she was the “star” of the show. I recall one show where Simon tried to tell Kara to shut up and she took offense stating that she was there to give constructive criticism. So true – but – what Kara said in 100 words someone else could say it in 10.

I haven’t watched Idol since Kelly won. I am so over the show because it’s too much of the same. The Idol singers barely make it into the business. How many have actually had success and continue to be successful?
It’s kind of like the Rocky movies. How many more times can we see the same thing. ONE IDOL was ENOUGH!

I stopped watching IDOL a long time ago … and with this edition of “new judges”, I see no reason to return as a viewer.
I am not surprised by this. Allow I love Ellen American Idol was not for her. Kara didn’t really add much.
It will be interesting to see what Jennifer and Steven bring to the table.

I was hoping for Howard Stern, at least it would have been really interesting then. And it crossed my mind often that Harry Connick, Jr. would be a great judge. Bret Michaels would have been decent too, but they couldn’t have had any blond female contestants on the show, too much liability, lol.
Bottom line, Tyler might be okay, at least he’s relevant and has major talent. But J Lo? C’mon, that’s scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Maybe American Idol should have a different celebrity guest judge each week instead of saddling us for an entire season with J Lo. I remember when Neil Patrick Harris judged during the auditions, and I thought he did a great job. And Shania Twain was hysterical, she could almost become a trainwreck, I do believe! Maybe Mary Jo Blige, Elton John, Rob Thomas, Bret Michaels, Rod Stewart, etc. could each sit in for one or two episodes…………just a thought. I hate to see AI go off air because it is such a good vehicle for these budding artists to at least get some exposure. Oh well, they didn’t ask me.
