Last summer, Dr.Drew announced he no longer had time to do his show Celebrity Rehab, and it would be taking an indefinite hiatus. Now, it looks like the good doctor has found time in his schedule to host yet another reality show, but this time, it will feature regular people; young adults in their twenties with addiction issues.
A press release posted by VH-1 has more details on the new show with a working title of Rehab With Dr. Drew.
VH1 is once again partnering with Dr. Drew Pinsky to lead a group of addicts through the difficult process of getting clean and sober. The new season of “Rehab with Dr. Drew” (Tentative title) will not feature celebrities with substance abuse issues, but instead follow the real-life experiences of young adults who are struggling with addiction as they undergo the same detoxification and treatment plan at The Pasadena Recovery Center as utilized in “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” “Rehab with Dr. Drew” is set to premiere in the summer of 2012 on VH1 with eight one-hour episodes.
Has it finally happened? Has Dr. Drew simply run out of D-listers willing to put their lives on screen for a minuscule shot at a comeback by attempting the extremely difficult and private matter that is attending substance abuse rehab on a reality show? Well, that is up for debate.
Surely, regular folks will demand much less money than a known celebrity and will probably be far more willing to discuss their lives. While Celebrity Rehab did “go there” on many occasions due to the nature of the show, actors are still actors and I’d bet money that there were many things that were kept from the public.
The network claims the show’s format is changing due to “many people” who have decided to seek help due to the show. Dr. Drew hopes that this show will inspire others to take the same step, saying “”It is my sincere hope that this show will encourage people who are struggling to seek the help. Treatment works and there is hope and recovery is possible.”

TELL US: WILL YOU WATCH DR. DREW’S NEW SHOW? DO YOU THINK A SHOW WITH NORMAL PEOPLE WILL BE MORE INTERESTING? DO YOU THINK THE SHOW WILL TRULY HELP VIEWERS WATCHING AT HOME?

I used to like Dr. Drew thought he was the real deal, until…he was wishy washy about Casey Anthony. For months he trash talked her, and then after the verdict, you would of thought he was a defense witness.
Dr. Drew lost all creditability with me,
How does this Doctor sleep at night?
Dr. Drew is awesome.
dear lord, Please hear my prayer. thank you for the good work Dr. Drew does. His heart is in the right place.
Please do not make any of the people on this show into any type of celebrity. Please do not allow them to be on the cover of US Weekly, on Access Hollywood or covered by my favorite site RealityTea.
These people should not be awarded for bad choices or for overcoming a disease or mental issues that thousands of people deal with daily.
Thank you for listening lord. Amen.
Dr. Drew is a fake!
i agree, last season he had a hard time finding celebrity cast members.
They asked so many people and they all said no.
He wanted Lindsay so bad and settled for her Dad.
Nobody stays sober when he is their doctor.
Look at the awful job he does with the Teen Mom.
Now it is time to cash in from the common addict.
Disgusting!
Wow, can I submit someone from family to be helped. My family alone would fill up the rehab ward.
Squeezy apparently thinks God reads RT
Dr Drew and Pasadena Recovery Center is a total joke… he’s never there for the “real” clients, its a dump and he’s got more relapsers than a kardashian at a tent sale
Treatment works and there is hope and recovery is possible.”
