Teen Mom Reunion Recap: Part Two

This is the end of MTV's Teen Mom. The original group, anyway. We still have Jenelle Evans and her buddies on Teen Mom 2 to ~~endure~~ enjoy, as well as a new group ~~to learn to love to hate~~ on Teen Mom 3.

I'll admit – the Teen Mom series finale left me craving more Teen Mom; however, after watching these reunion "specials," I can honestly say I'm ready to move on. On Part One of the reunion special, which was taped the first weekend of March, Dr. Drew Pinsky talked to Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra, and Farrah Abraham.

Part two brings us the rest of the original cast. Well, almost. Amber Portwood is still at summer camp. <wink, wink>

Maci and Ryan… Sitting in a Tree…

Before Dr. Drew obsesses about Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards living happily ever after, he asks Maci about college. She says, "I'm doing good now. After my first two years, I just realized how fast it was going by. I stopped making excuses. Aside from Bentley, that should be the most important thing." Maci adds she is done wasting her time and money. Also, she travels at least once a week to speak to teens about teen pregnancy.

Teen Mom Reunion Recap: Part One

Searching for stability, searching for sobriety… a whole lot of searching… and that, my friends, is how Dr. Drew Pinsky sums up the final season of Teen Mom. Then he welcomes Farrah Abraham, Maci Bookout, and Catelynn Lowell to the reunion special. Amber Portwood is at summer camp and unable to attend the taping.

When Dr. Drew glosses over Amber's absence, I know that this was taped a while back. I mean, "legal and personal issues" and "voluntary five-year prison term" aren't even in the same ballpark. If the "reunion show" isn't going to be taped in real time, I think it's kind of pointless.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of the reunion, ha, who am I kidding? It's Dr. Drew. Let me start again.

Teen Mom Series Finale Recap

Before we get into the limp lettuce and soggy potatoes of the reunion, Dr. Drew reminds us what happened this season on Teen Mom, as if it isn't already permanently burned into our brains. (I'll show you my scar tissue, if you show me yours.) Alas, the highlights…

Amber and Gary Shirley fight. Amber enters rehab after she threatens suicide. Rehab takes away Amber's fake eyelashes and spray tan but not her drugs. Amber goes home. Amber and Gary fight. Gary gets sole custody of Leah.

Teen Mom Recap: So Long…Until Next Season

Last night we bid a final farewell to MTV’s original Teen Mom cast. Well, not technically final, because I’m sure they will keep filming this train wreck as long as their are folks like me to watch it!

The finale resumes with a saddened Amber rejoining her mother on Dr. Drew’s sofa after the doctor goes to speak with her. At the end of the first half of the reunion Amber had stormed off stage because she was so upset discussing her younger sister’s death from SIDS when Amber was four years old. Dr. Drew assures Amber that SIDS is sadly a common killer of infants and no one is to blame.

Amber’s mother remembers that the mother-daughter relationship was very stressful before Amber got pregnant. Dr. Drew uses Amber and her mother as a tutorial for parents who are concerned about their child’s sex lives, discussing how to overcome the awkwardness of broaching the subject of sex with one another.

MTV’s Teen Mom Season 3 & Spin-off Coming Soon! Plus Emotional Reunion

Following the huge success of season 2 of MTV’s Teen Mom, the NYPost is reporting that a third season is already in the works.

According to the Post, the show has averaged 2.8 million viewers per episode for MTV this season, while also bringing in young female viewers for the network. In fact, the finale episode last week brought in over 6 million viewers for MTV.

So what does this mean? It means we can expect a whole lot more from these popular teen mothers. MTV has reportedly already began filming season 3, and was on hand to film Amber Portwood and ex-fiance Gary Shirley’s recent visit to a Tennessee waterpark.

And though the all new season of 16 and Pregnant doesn’t kick off until Oct. 26, the MTV network has reportedly already handpicked a few of the girls from the upcoming season to appear on their own Teen Mom spinoff. “We’re always exploring new production ideas, but can’t confirm anything at this time,” said an MTV spokeswoman of the news.

Moving on to last night’s 2 hour reunion episode which brought us an emotional break-down by each of the teenage moms. Farrah Abraham broke down when discussing her mom’s abusive behavior towards her while her mom Debra Danielson also broke down telling her daughter she loved her in spite of everything that has taken place.

The biggest breakdown came from Amber, who revealed she also grew up witnessing abusive behavior by her mother. Dr. Drew Pinsky then explained to her that she was continuing the cycle of domestic violence by hitting Gary. Amber claimed she didn’t remember attacking Gary and cried as she admitted she’s is uncertain about what direction to go in her life.
