Well, that was a hot mess of ugly wasn’t it? On last night’s episode of Project Runway the designers were required to find inspiration for a red carpet look from some sort of new Lexus (i.e. shameless product plug which I ignored because it has nothing to do with fashion). If all of that wasn’t exciting enough, they had to work in teams of two (aka: drama-bitchest extraordinaire.).
After making googly eyes at the car and learning the body color must be featured in the design, there’s a twist! They have to design for a “celebrity”!
And not just any “celebrity” – a former PR alum. All of which but Laura Bennett came from the much less exciting Lifetime years of the series. All of the “celebrities” were women, which was good all for everyone but Raul and Alicia, who have nary any experience in the evening gown department. Oopsie!
The returning designer celebrities were Anya Ayoung-Chee (still not wearing sleeves, I noticed!), Mila Hermanovski, Laura, Irina Shabayeva, Kenley Collins (still loud and bossy as ever!), April Johnston (now with hot pink hair), and Valerie Mayen (who?).
The guest judge was… Oh wait, I forgot because her critique went like this ‘I don’t like that. The Emmy’s? Never been! I wore something like that once. Oooh, shiny!’ Can’t they get any people actually involved in the fashion business to participate in this show or has it truly lost all credibility?
Since nobody cares about anything but the clothes, Reality Tea is providing you a snap-judgement photocap. C’mon you know that’s how you watch the show, too!
OK, let’s trash discuss some looks!

THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE? WHY DO YOU THINK GUNNAR AND KOOAN MADE TOP 2? WAS RAUL THE RIGHT CHOICE TO GO HOME?
Project Runway Photocap Drive Me Crazy
Photos for Project Runway Season 10, Episode 3 Recap
-
Andrea & Christopher's Gown For Anya
Andrea & Christopher: Hot. Mess. Garbage bag. Hey - she deserves it after all the schlock she put down the runway last season. Karma is a bitch. Seriously though, she is a beautiful woman and this looked like a cheap prom dress - and it made her look wide and short. What was that material? They should have given her something with sleeves as a joke. -
Melissa & Dmitry's Gown For April
Melissa & Dmitry: This was really lovely and fit both April and the event well. I thought the neckline was a little high and tight, but the back was stunning. The color was also very glamorous. Why wasn't this in the top 2? -
Gunnar & Kooan's Gown For Irina
Gunnar & Kooan: Awful. Cheap, awful, hilariously awful, unflattering, really really awful, boring. Irinia even tried to complain about it but that was edited out. The back was a joke and the construction a hideous mess. Was I hallucinating when this landed in the top? Heidi like it because it was tight and tacky. This was just so wretched it deserved Bottom 2! -
Ven & Fabio's Gown For Kenley
Ven & Fabio: This was beautiful - and it fit Kenley's style perfectly. Frankly it's the best (and I mean that) she's ever looked because girlfriend has horrible taste. The detail on the bodice was stunning and the praise was well-deserved, but I don't think Ven should have won since they essentially made a cocktail dress. -
Elena & Buffi's Gown For Laura
Elena & Buffi: I just didn't see Laura in this gown. The neckline/shoulders were unflattering and it was too dark and heavy for her style. Elena is proving herself to be too one-note - same style/shape; every challenge. Did Buffi have any say in this? -
Raul & Alicia's Gown For Mila
Raul & Alicia: These two are MENSWEAR designers and Mila loves MENSWEAR inspired looks. Why they chose this is a travesty. It was cheap, unflattering, and frankly disgusting. A nun's habit. A nun who just left the convent and is out on the town for the first time ever! So aging and unfitted. Yuck. They both should have gone home. -
Nathan and Sonija's Gown For Valerie
Nathan & Sonija: Lovely, flattering, boring, done to death. They both have unique styles, so why they made a one-note dress that we've seen a million times is a mystery. At least their model looked lovely which is more than I can say for most of these gowns.
